The first meeting of the working group established within the project \u201cFostering Qualified Protection of the Mora\u010da River in Montenegro\u201d<\/em> was successfully held. During the meeting, representatives of relevant ministries, local governments, the Water Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency were introduced to the project and its planned activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants expressed support for the project\u2019s core idea and agreed on future cooperation aimed at protecting the Mora\u010da River<\/strong>, recognized as one of Montenegro\u2019s most valuable natural assets, as highlighted by Ilinka Alori\u0107<\/strong>, a representative of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jovana Janju\u0161evi\u0107<\/strong>, Executive Director of the Center for Protection and Research of Birds (CZIP)<\/strong>, emphasized that the project contributes to Montenegro\u2019s obligations related to the designation of the Natura 2000 network<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annette Spangenberg <\/strong>from EuroNatur<\/strong> outlined the key project activities and underlined that the establishment and active work of the working group represent a crucial step toward achieving effective protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jovana \u0110oki\u0107<\/strong>, a biologist from the Montenegrin Ecologists Society<\/strong>, reminded participants that the number of free-flowing rivers in Europe, those without major barriers, is extremely limited, making the Mora\u010da River even more valuable and important to preserve. She highlighted the key pressures affecting the Mora\u010da River basin, including gravel extraction, unplanned construction, the direct discharge of untreated wastewater, illegal landfills, pesticide use in agriculture, and other threats. \u0110oki\u0107 emphasized that river pollution is not only a biological issue, but also a public health and societal concern.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting also served to present the new zonation of the Zeta River<\/strong>, which was presented by Andrej Sovinc<\/strong>, and was followed by an in-depth discussion among the members of the working group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting concluded with an agreement to incorporate comments and documents provided by working group members into the planned studies, as well as to consider expanding the group in order to strengthen cross-sectoral cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is implemented with the support of the EuroNatur Foundation<\/strong> and with financial support from the Aage V. Jensen Charity Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
